We had a perfect day for the 2010 CBFTA Family Fun Day, this was a clear 20 degree day with a little breeze. The Ottawa
Valley Beagle club was all decorated and grounds clean and organized waiting for the anxious children and parents to arrive.
One by one, the children arrived, eyes full of excitement and wonder. Dogs all leased on their respective lines, also very
anxious to get in the trial area and show us all what they do. You could feel the excitement in the air, smiling faces, hands
shaking hands, children making new friends, tails wagging and parents all working together helping as much as possible with
the chores involved in a regular trial.

Our veteran beaglers leading the show, with Dan Kane at the registry table welcoming our young future beaglers taking their
names and entry forms, Field and Gallery Marshall Coady MacDonald welcoming everyone, Chris Lloyd at the painting table
painting numbers on dogs as they are entered, Todd DesChamps getting sound system ready to do the announcing of dogs
and handlers.

Children were then asked to come to the announcing table one by one picking their dog numbers out of a hat that they will
handle for the day. Dan was then busy again keeping records of handler and dog combinations. The children were also busy
familiarizing themselves with their dogs, petting and hugging them and giving them all the love a dog could handle.

Field Marshall Coady MacDonald asked all the children handlers to lease dogs and follow him, we all proceeded to the watch
tower where he told us all to cast our hounds. Judging partners were established and pick up time was set.

The 18 hungry hounds worked feverishly looking for Mr Bunny, noses to the ground covering as much area as they could, 20
minutes had passed when they found Mr Bunny at the lower end in the wet swampy area. We could hear the dogs pounding
with a steady pace, not letting up, running went hard for a couple hours with very little loss. Judges in the hot spots were busy
scoring, children's eyes were as big as flying saucers as the bunny and pack of hounds would go flying by. Time passed very
quickly with all the excitement, the horn sounded in the distance ending a very exciting trial.

Dan was waiting at scoring table as the judging partners handed in their score, the scores were tabulated, we have 1st to 10th
placing hounds and handlers in the field competition.

Bench show was then announced. Each child brought their dogs one by one on a lease as Coady MacDonald and Dave Flear
stood with their judges book. The children paraded their hounds trying their hardest to impress the judges. After a long recess,
the judges came back with their scores, we had 1st through to 10th placing hounds and handlers in show.

One by one, the winners were announced as each child received a trophy, ribbon and a candy bag full of treats. When all the
winners were announced for the field and bench competition, pictures were taken of the placing hounds and their handlers.

The Barbecues were then fired up, hot dogs and hamburgs were cooked. The ladies preparing the dining area as the children
quickly filled up their plates heading for the picnic area with lots to eat. After a beautiful lunch, the parents enjoyed the rest of
the day sitting and socializing, while the children pampered the dogs and played games.

All you could hear from the parents and children was: "What a great day", and a great day it was...
